New Band of the Week: Swarm6ix

Intriguing new British band Swarm6ix have fused metal and trap with a sprinkling of nu-metal in an intense and engaging futuristic sound they describe as “trap, goth and primal.”

The band’s unique identity was built on a shared love for metal and heavy trap. And, by expressing themselves through art, they aim to provide a safe space for people that have appeared anti-social, dormant or introverted.

As the band explains to us: “We’ve been in and out of bands for years together, under various different names but FACES OF EVE (our last project) before the rebrand was where we really formed the bond. From there we decided to rebrand with something we were more passionate about and something a bit more modern.

“Our style basically blends heavy trap influences such as Ghostemane and Suicideboys with a heavy nu-metal style like Korn and Limp Bizkit, but with a modern metal sprinkle.”

We chatted to Swarm6ix around the release of their second single $ocial $uicide last month. It opens up with light electronic noises then a cry of “Swarm” ushers in a wild intro, before dropping into rapped vocals. Chunky instrumentals come in and feed it into a lively chorus, which gives way to cool electronic noises and cries of “Tell me who you’re fucking with.”

On the track, they told us: “The reception on $ocial $uicide has been great! We’ve gained a lot more attention sooner than we expected! If you haven’t heard our new track yet then expect another intense hit of energy with a great blend of Suicideboys style vocals mixed with Jonathan Davies’ 90s nu-metal! Run it!” Check it out here:

That’s since been followed by their third track Fuego earlier this month. It opens up with electronic noises that burst into a vicious blast of vocals that begin with the line “Hey, what’s your starting, I’m a fucking Gemini, So many psychotic tendencies I got my own hotline.”

Chunky guitar chords are supported by electronic noises under engaging vocals, which feed into a catchy chorus supported by dramatic instrumentals. Repeats of “Where’s God when you’re drowning” give way to vicious vocals that bring the track to a close. Give it a listen here:

Both those tracks follow their intense debut single Dopamine, which dives straight into fast-paced vocals answered by a wall of chunky low-tuned guitars and drums. It drops into a trappy verse led by engaging vocals before the chunky guitars return alongside more intense vocals. The pace drops but huge crushing guitars take over as wild vocals build up to a heavy final chorus. Check it out in the video here:

These three tracks are part of an initial batch of eight tracks – so five more to come – that the band has been hard at work on and plans to release through the remainder of the year.

And on what inspires them to write music, the band told us: “Normally topics come naturally and fall into place themselves. But usually, mental health and bad past experiences have a major part in shaping vocal themes.”

You can see Swarm6ix for yourself as they tour the UK next month, starting with a three-night tour with Colosseums at Hairy Dog in Derby on 23 June, Castle Tavern in Luton on 24 June and Black Heart in London on 25 June. They’re also playing UK Tech Fest, which takes place in Newark between 29 June and 3 July.

You can follow Swarm6ix or “join the Swarm” on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok, and check out their music on Spotify and YouTube.
