London-based band 4FOXSAKE are on a mission to challenge social barriers with an explosive sound that harnesses elements of punk, hard rock and metal, and they describe as “loud, anthemic and catchy.”
The London-based band’s members hail from across Europe, with vocalist and guitarist Marios Patsalosavis from Cyprus, guitarist Augustin Bellay and bassist Micka Blanchet from France and drummer Elias Da Silva from Portugal. The band came together when Marios and Elias started putting together a new project and, at the same time, Micka and Augustin were trying t do the same thing. So when they discovered each other, “it was a match made in heaven and 4FOXSAKE was born.”
Since then, they’ve worked hard honing what they describe as “Green Day meets System of a Down, with Led Zeppelin and Metallica hanging out in the room as well.”
Our latest taste of this is their single Addicted, which was released in February. It opens up with a lively riff supported by crushing drums, before dropping into light palm-muted guitars supporting Marios’ engaging vocals. Chunky guitar chords feed into a big singalong chorus “Hold me tight, Oh please keep me safe, Trust that our love won’t ever fade, Hold me tight, Welcome into my arms, We’ll never break even when the world won’t feel the same.”
A funky little riff bridges into a slightly heavier verse before more chords and rolling drums lead into another big chorus. This time a cool guitar solo takes over, and drops into a final blast of the chorus to bring the track to an energetic conclusion.
On the track, the band told us: “The reception has been great! Everyone seems to agree that it is a step up from our previous work which is always nice to hear. The song touches on the duality of a passionate relationship, and it reflects in the music. There are explosive riffs, then more calm and quiet verses, and then a chorus that will quickly get stuck in your head!” Check it out here:
4FOXSAKE have a strong back catalogue of equally punchy rocky goodness, including two EPs released in 2019 and 2020. From those, we especially like the sound of You Rock, the opening track of their debut 2019 EP Make Believe, which is dominated by Marios’ impressive vocals. We also love Help Me Escape, the title track of their second EP. It opens up with an edgy riff that repeats with heavy drums and gives way to a lively opening verse then feeds into a big chorus “Help me escape, These chains that I create, Give me my dose, Leave me alone, Don’t let me drown.” Check it out in the video here:
The 4FOXSAKE sound has been influenced by the punk and metal music they grew up on, as the band say: “We are all 90s kids, all the punk and metal bands from the late 90s and early 2000s have had a tremendous impact on all of us. As we grew older we also started looking into the bands that were influencing those bands we grew up with. trying to come up with an exhaustive list for the four of us would take way too much time!”
And on what inspires them to write music, they add: “We mainly write about our lives as young adults, trying to make it through this world. The themes vary from our jobs, to our relationships, to depression, to trying to live up to other people’s expectations. There is also the impact of social media on our lives, which as musicians we have a strange love-hate relationship with.”
If you like what you hear then you can catch 4FOXSAKE playing live at the Acoustic Couch in Bracknell next Saturday (15 July). The band is also in the process of finishing up their debut album, which will be brushed up and finalised when they head back into the studio in August. However, if you’re too impatient for that, you can check all the tracks out in the current state on Patreon.
As the band add: “As stated above we have a Patreon, if you like what we do and want to support us it is the best way to do that, along with buying merch and CDs and coming to see us play live! We can guarantee we never disappoint! Regardless, listening to our music and giving us a follow online is already amazing!”
