Introducing: Olly E

Loughborough solo artist Olly E is on a mission “not to be pigeon-holed” with a diverse sound that offers up elements of rock, metal and nu-metal and he describes as “energetic, dynamic and melodic.”

Olly went down the solo path after growing tired of a lack of motivation within bands in his hometown in Leicestershire. He started the solo project while studying at the music institute BIMM Bristol in 2016.

On the sound he’s crafted since, Olly told us: “I’d say my music was melodic and catchy with lots of lead guitar hooks. However, my music is always evolving and is currently heavier than before. I now aim not to be pigeon-holed into a specific sub-genre.”

Our latest taste of this is his new single Heartline, which was released at the end of last month. It opens up with chunky stabs of guitar and big cymbal crashes, which drop into nu-metally rapped vocals supported by a funky guitar lick. That flows into a singalong chorus “Will you light my fire, Ignite it with a spark, Until I feel it in my heart, Deep inside I find, My soul needs a restart, Over and over again” supported by more melodic instrumentals. It intensifies with a heavier bridge, which ends with chugging guitars and feeds into a chorus that extends into the outro.

On the track, Olly says: “After having a break for almost a year, it’s great to be back with new music. The track is a little heavier than previous work, so it’s been nice to see all the positive responses. Expect a hard-hitting yet melodic track focused on early 2000s nu-metal vibes.” Check it out in the lyric video here:

Heartline follows on from tracks like the enjoyable Everlasting, which features a cool piano line and little synth elements under the catchy chorus and a cool guitar solo, and last year’s Believe The Unseen, which you can check out in the lyric video here:

Olly’s music is influenced by the likes of Linkin Park, Twenty One Pilots, Muse, Bring Me the Horizon, Pendulum. And on what inspires him to write music, he told us: “I used to write lyrics solely about bringing positivity to the listener. But I’d now like to write about topics that resonate with me and make me feel like I want to say something.”

There’s plenty more to come, with Olly telling us Heartline is the launchpad for a new wave of releases. As he explains: “My plan is to release four singles every two to three months focused around a certain lyrical and visual theme, until a four-track EP is born, then begin the process again.

Heartline is the start of a lyrical theme centred around the human condition, Desire. I think this can help keep momentum going whilst making Olly E fresh and exciting to work with. I am also currently rehearsing with a backing band, hoping to begin performing live around February to March 2025.”

And Olly’s activity in the music industry doesn’t end with being a creator and performer, as he adds: “Beginning with Heartline, I now produce my own music and visuals as part of ODIE Music Services. ODIE Music Services is my sole trader business specialising in cover entertainment, guitar lessons and music productions. “
