Italian solo artist AIN’T offers up an engaging rock sound that embraces diverse musical approaches from alternative metal to psychedelic and they describe as “free, proud and insane.”
AIN’T takes an approach that they tell us may be “somewhat politically incorrect to the righteous masses.” But all we know is that we enjoy their catchy music led by engaging vocals, with intriguing elements like an accordion taking centre stage on The Value Of Nothing.
On the AIN’T sound, they tell us: “AINT’s sound is ongoing experimental. I started to play Stoner Punk with the EP “Lo-Fi Demo” in 2022. Now, Realism Through The Lens leans more towards Classic Rock and alternative metal. In general, I focus more on the composition and the vocal melodies than the sound. Anyway, all the music that I have released until now have in common a dirty and rough sound reminding me that I’m a lout!”
AIN’T sent us the track Holy Water from their new album Realism Through The Lens, which was released last week. It opens up with light vocals that burst into life alongside dramatic instrumentals in a deliciously powerful chorus. Second time around, the chorus flows into drawn-out synths under a darting little riff, before the pace drops with a light lick and random hits of piano keys bringing the track to a moody conclusion.
On the track, AIN’T told us: “Holy Water is my favourite song from the album. This record covers different genres, from alternative metal to psychedelia. Until now people have appreciated songs other than Holy Water, but I don’t care, they are free to disagree with me. For anyone who hasn’t listened to it yet they should expect one of the best voices around.”
Realism Through The Lens offers diverse tracks like the opener Burnt Hamlets, which features a heavy chugging guitar throughout alongside dancey electronic drums, the very Marilyn Manson-esque The Value Of Nothing, and the heavier The Stones Remain.
The AIN’T sound has been influenced by a wide range of music. As they explain: “I listen to music all the time and every day I discover something interesting that inspires me. That, consequently, I unconsciously bring into my composition and my sound. Even though Oasis doesn’t appeal to me as much as before, they have had a great influence on me, especially in the creation of vocal melodies. In addition to them, I can certainly mention Placebo, Marilyn Manson and Pink Floyd.
And on what inspires them to write music, they tell us: “Actually I don’t know, maybe I write music because I can. Also because I can be narcissistic, I like to show off and express my thoughts and ideas, and I can do this through music. My inspiration comes from a chaotic and unrelenting flow of negative and positive thoughts that I have in my head during the day.”
There’s more to come from AIN’T, who’s keen to add to their two albums released in 2024. As they say: “Maybe next year I will travel to Australia to continue with my musical projects. I’ve already been there and I had a blast. There’ll be for sure new music from AIN’T. I have been in contact with a famous producer. We’re talking about a collaboration. Maybe he will produce one of my new tracks, but right now everything is still up in the air. We’ll see!”
