Introducing: TeethOut

Canadian band TeethOut transports us back to the good old days of 90s/2000s punk and skate punk with a catchy and intense punky sound that they describe as “hook, driven and energy.”

The Prince Edward Island collective is formed of Josh Lavigne (vocals), Ira Banks and Brandon Doyle (guitars), Pete MacDonald (bass) and Jason Ezeard (drums) and comes from rich Canadian music pedigree. The band first formed when Jason was moving home after performing with punk rock band Trashed Ambulance for the previous decade. He got in touch with Ira and Josh in August, they swiftly recorded their first two singles, then held auditions to onboard Brandon and Pete, who comes from the legendary punk rock band Supercar.

On what to expect from the band, Josh said: “Certainly influenced by the bands we loved since the 90s/2000s, but more so from our own experiences, past bands and the music scene we’ve grown up in.”

TeethOut sent us their second single Streetlights, which opens up with a light guitar lick under Josh’s opening line “Wait for us, Under the streetlights.” Heavy guitar chords kick in as the vocals intensify with chord chugs and a light lick in the background feeding into a chorus that you can’t help but sing along to. A second chorus bridges into more vocals, which tee up a delicious guitar solo and kicks back into a few renditions of the catchy chorus to bring it to a lively ending.

On the track, Josh told us: “The reception has been great. Being basically an unknown band, the song is now approaching 5,000 listens on Spotify and the first two releases have passed 10,000 listens on all streaming platforms. Streetlights is a singalong anthem for all those people waiting for that right person to come along.” Check it out in the stream here:

Streelights follows on from the band’s debut single Cancel Me, which opens up with chunky riffs over big driving drums. Josh’s engaging vocals join in and flow into the big catchy chorus “Please cancel, Cancel me I’m struggling.” And it’s since been followed by a third single Down On Queen, a really short and sweet taster of punky goodness with a fun chugging riff and a funky little guitar lick feeding into a huge singalong outro.

Streetlights comes from the band’s debut EP, which will be released on 9 January. On the EP, Josh told us: “Our label, High End Denim Records has been fully supportive and allowed us to take our time to get everything right before the release. People should expect meaningful songs, powerful punk pop riffs and lots of singalongs!”

The TeethOut sound has been shaped by a range of different styles and genres under the punk rock umbrella, from Lagwagon, Pennywise and Strung Out to Hot Water Music, Banner Pilot and Lifetime.

And on what inspires them to write music, Josh explains: “The band originally was to not write anything too serious. But so far, the band has been tackling addiction, suicide, mental health and loneliness. All major factors in today’s world. These topics have been layered on top of hook-driven punk rock riffs influenced by our 25+ years performing in the scene.”

If you’re digging the catchy punk rock sound of TeethOut then you’re in luck. Not only will their debut EP be released on 9 January, the band also aim to have a video for Streetlights out next month and release their first full-length album by the third quarter of 2025. And they already have an idea and structure of the album’s first two singles. The band has delayed playing gigs until they have a solid catalogue of music available, but we’re certain they’ll be conquering the live stage world very soon.

You can follow TeethOut on Facebook and Instagram, and check out their music on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
