Introducing: StopGap Solution

Tennessee band StopGap Solution deliver a fresh take on nostalgic alternative rock and classic rock with an engaging, hooky sound they describe as “genuine, positive, energetic.”

The Memphis band is formed of long-time friends Chris Allen (vocals and guitars), Zack Smith (guitar and bass), Zach Kirk (bass) and Brandon Earl (drums), who played in and toured with a variety of bands, including Perspective, Ingram Hill, AMMM (Allen, Mack, Myers, Moore), The Fairwell, and J.R. Moore. After multiple performances together, the band started when Chris and Zack decided to start writing together and discovered a natural chemistry – which has led to them supporting the likes of Shinedown and Theory of a Deadman.

To get a taste for this, StopGap Solution sent us their latest single One More Time, which was released in June. It opens up with big guitar chords answered with higher-pitched guitar stabs that drop into engaging vocals over light guitars. That builds up to a big singalong chorus, before another relaxed verse and catchy chorus, which drops into stabbing guitars and more intense vocals to setup a big final blast of the chorus.

On the track, they told us: “It has been our quickest growing release! It brings a new listen to a nostalgic sound. This song blends alternative rock and classic radio rock.” Check it out in the lyric video here:

That follows on from a series of singles over the last three years, including the anthemic debut single Wasting, the feisty Mountains and a personal favourite Won’t Find Me, which you can check out in the lyric video here:

The StopGap Solution sound has been honed by influences like Shinedown, Switchfoot, Collective Soul, Jimmy Eat World. And on what inspires them to write music, they tell us: “We are a band full of genuine friends. We have been playing music together in many aspects over a 20-year timeline, so playing music together comes very naturally at this point. We take inspiration from all of life’s experiences – past and present.”

StopGap Solution are wrapping up a month of recording with producer David Cowell at Supernova Sound in Memphis. Those sessions will result in new songs being released through 2025, so keep your eye out for new music very soon.
