Global collaboration The Kyle Jordan Project blends indie rock with modern rock influences in a sound that they describe as “fearless, real and connected” and began as a creative outlet following some life-changing news.
Three years ago, frontman Kyle was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was incredibly tough to deal with but also left him with very little to do. So he turned to songwriting. However, something was missing so he turned to the Internet to find people to write music and jam with. That led him to Greg, who’d been part of South African progressive metal band Red Helen (go listen, they sound great), which had come to a standstill during Covid.
Instead, Greg was running a successful business as a home-based studio musician, and the duo started to collaborate on a few songs. Greg soon introduced Kyle to Erick, his guitarist with Red Helen, and the magic started to click between the trio. The project initially started out as a global collaboration, with Kyle acting as a producer, Greg and Erick helping with writing and producing, and further input from other musicians around the world.
But that all changed when they signed to Sodeh Records – alongside Die Tired, who we featured a couple of weeks ago. As of this month, The Kyle Jordan Project is officially a band with a record label and a proud endorsement from Godin Guitars, and the future looks very bright.
As Kyle explained: “The three of us are the core, we’re a tight-knit trio. Sodeh has been awesome about it. Sure, being spread across different locations adds a bit of planning for tours—visas, flights, that kind of thing—but we’ve got it all worked out. The only thing we can’t do is last-minute gigs. Looking ahead, we’re already brainstorming a tour for 2026, which we’re crazy excited about. Until then, we’re constantly writing, recording, and staying creative. We even offer virtual recording, producing, and songwriting services for other artists.
“While I’m based in Victoria, B.C., the band is spread across different locations. Victoria is still our ‘home base,’ though. Musically, we’re a modern rock band with an anthemic sound—think big guitars, soaring vocals, and songs that hit you right in the chest. We like to keep things fresh, so you’ll hear a lot of variety in our music.”
To get a taste for this, the band sent us Demons, which focuses on Kyle’s personal diagnosis journey and the subsequent struggle, resilience and transformation. Demons open up with drums that continue under Erick’s engaging vocals, which flow into a delicious chorus “Yeah, I made friends with my demons, Faced all the shit I been through, I’m done searching with reasons why, And I’m done listening to you.” The vocals immediately intensify in a darker second verse that includes the lines “Walk out and live, no matter what, Kill all the doubts that kept me stuck, And leave ’em on the surgeon’s table, I’m still breathing, It’s not my time to go.” A second chorus drops into a funky guitar solo with stabbing guitars supporting vocals that gradually intensify towards a final blast of the chorus.
On the track, Kyle told us: “Demons has been a game-changer for us! The reception has been absolutely mind-blowing. It’s stayed on radio charts for around 8 weeks now and peaked at an insane #7 on the World Wide Rock Charts. Seriously, when you see your band’s name listed alongside legends like Linkin Park, Green Day, Kaleo, Foo Fighters, and Sum 41, it’s surreal. Knowing that Demons was one of the top 7 rock songs in the world—it’s hard to put into words how incredible that feels.”
“For anyone who hasn’t heard it yet, Demons is raw, powerful, and deeply personal. It’s about battling your inner struggles and coming out stronger on the other side. It’s got this haunting, emotional vibe that builds into a massive, anthemic chorus—big guitars, soaring vocals, and everything you’d want from a rock anthem. It’s intense, it;s honest, and it’s meant to hit you right in the feels. If you love modern rock with heart and a message, give Demons a listen. It’s been life-changing for us, and we hope it can be for you too.” Check it out in the video here:
The Kyle Jordan Project delivers music that Greg describes as “Modern rock full of storytelling, passionate vocals and unyielding guitar and drums. For fans of Imagine Dragons, 21 Pilots, mixed with a little dirty rock’n’roll.” That includes the more laid-back but delicious Loved By You, which features dual male and female vocals, the funky Mexico, and their salaciuos latest single Tall Blonde Honey, which you can check out in the saucy video here:
The trio bring a diverse mix of musical interests to the table, including Kyle’s celebrity crushes leading to a love for The Pretty Reckless and Linkin Park. He’s also big into the likes of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, country music like George Strait, Zach Bryan, Kelsea Ballerini, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, Blackberry Smoke, Billy Bob Thornton and Brothers Osborne, as well as pop and modern rock acts like Imagine Dragons, Sabrina Carpenter, The Glorious Sons, 21 Pilots, Talk and Eminem.
Erick comes from a more progressive metal and metalcore background, including the likes of Killswitch Engage, Sikth, Periphery, Veil Of Maya, The Contortionist, Karnivool and Northlane. But he also takes influence from Funk, RnB, Soul, Jazz, Blues, Classic Rock and traditional Heavy Metal. And Greg names Kendrick Lamar as his favourite artist along with experimental electronic music like Against all Logic, Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada and songwriters like Billy Joel, Sufjan Stevens, Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver and Mount Eerie.
And on what inspires them to write music, Greg told us: “We’re pretty open on topics in this band, but I think a key feature is our love of character portraits and stories. We love writing from the perspective of unlikely heroes, anti-heroes, etc. We also have a running joke that a lot of our female protagonists end up killing or scamming shitty men. I guess we have a thing for dangerous women.” To which Kyle responded: “I think women are just tired of the Mansplaining!”
The Kyle Jordan Project is always recording and working on new music. As Erick tells us: “It’s kinda funny how we’re always thinking about which songs to release next because we have so many of them. It’s great having options as opposed to just releasing a song ’cause it’s the only one we’ve got. So yes, lots more recording music, and there is some talk of potential tours coming up, but nothing concrete yet.”
