Introducing: Slow Motion Victory

Toronto newcomers Slow Motion Victory have cracked the perfect formula for metal success with crushing riffs, engaging vocals and vicious breakdowns in a sound they describe as “explosive, melodic and dynamic.”

The metalcore meets hard rock band formed out of the embers of another project, Anniversary. As band member Quentin tells us: “We came together with a shared vision. We had the same drive, influences, and a hunger to create something fresh – so we made it happen. Since then, we’ve been pushing boundaries, blending heavy riffs, anthemic hooks, and raw emotion into our sound.

“We fuse modern metalcore with hard rock – heavy guitars, earth-shaking breakdowns, and soaring melodies. It’s intense but catchy, aggressive yet emotional. I’d describe it as explosive: we bring intensity with heavy-hitting riffs, breakdowns, and high-energy performances; melodic: big choruses, emotional depth, and hooks that stay with you; and dynamic: our sound isn’t confined to just one style, we pull elements from rock, metalcore and even pop.”

Our first taste of this is Slow Motion’s Victory superb debut single Burn, which was released last month. The track opens up with a delicious darting riff over lively drums, which drops into laid-back vocals and dreamy instrumentals. The vocals pick up in intensity and explode into a big atmospheric chorus “All my regret, I’m wide awake, Can’t forget what I said, I set the world on fire to watch it burn, I set the stage on fire, You’ll never learn, In the end you’ll be the one who burns.”

A big riff kicks in and drops back into a light verse building into another catchy chorus. Second time around, the chorus gives way to an ominous little instrumental section and a huge cry of “I set the world on fire” ushers a crushing riff and more big screams. It drops back into light vocals that quickly feed into a final blast of the huge chorus supported, before ending with more crushing guitars.

This track is an absolute banger of a debut single, and Quentin told us: “It’s unreal, the response has been amazing! We’ve been building this band for a while, and Burn is the first real statement of what we’re about. Seeing people connect with it – adding it to playlists, sharing it, vibing with it – makes everything worth it. And this is just the beginning. If you haven’t heard it yet, expect a track that’s heavy but catchy, aggressive but anthemic. If you like big hooks, crushing breakdowns, and lyrics that hit deep, this one’s for you.”

As Quentin alluded to, this track is only the beginning for Slow Motion Victory. The band will be releasing three to four singles over the next eight months, building up to the release of their debut EP Let This Dream Die.

On the EP, Quentin told us: “This EP is going to be us at full power – massive choruses, big riffs, and emotion-packed lyrics. Every song brings something different, but they’ll tie in cohesively together.”

The Slow Motion Victory draws influence from modern bands like Wage War, I Prevail, Bring Me the Horizon, Architects and Kingdom of Giants. As Quentin explains: “Each of these bands has a unique way of blending heavy and melodic elements, and that’s something we strive for in our own music. We’re drawn to the energy, emotion, and creativity that these artists bring to the table.”

And on what inspires them to write music, he added: “Our songs come from real experiences – struggles, perseverance, mental battles, and personal growth. We want listeners to connect, whether it’s an anthem to scream along to or something that helps them through tough times. And of course, we also write tracks that just hit hard and make you want to move.”

In addition to new tracks, writing new music and the upcoming debut EP, Slow Motion Victory are also working on putting together a strong setlist with a view to play gigs later this year.

And Quentin added: “We can’t wait to bring these songs to life on stage and connect with fans in a live setting. We’re here to make music that hits hard, means something, and connects with people. Whether you’re in it for the riffs, the melodies, or the lyrics, we appreciate every single person who listens. Follow us, add us to your playlists, and if you vibe with our music – spread the word. This is just the beginning.”
