Introducing: Eric Dalton

Metal solo artist Eric Dalton has crafted an engaging but hard-hitting sound that he describes as “energy, powerful and deep.” Eric combines catchy clean vocals and chunky riffs with soaring synths and vicious screams in an encapsulating sound.

Eric hails from Wappingers Falls, a small village in Dutchess County, New York. He’s played in many bands over the years, including during a time living in Los Angeles that led to him wanting to “downsize” and escape the drama. He’s spent the last few years writing and recording music in his home studio with his friends Russ on drums and Joe, who travels up from South Carolina to perform gigs with them, on bass.

Our latest taste of this is Eric’s new single breathe, which was released last month. It opens up with laid-back vocals with a little guitar lick and a distant synth sound, which explodes into guitar chords and a big piercing synth. An engaging verse follows, which ends with heavy screamed vocals and the pace drops before blasting into a big chorus. A second chorus ends with vicious screamed vocals and heavy guitars, before the pace drops to set up a powerful final blast of the chorus.

On the track, Eric told us: “So far everyone I talk to loves the new single breathe. ‘Best song yet,’ ‘Another hit,’ ‘keep your eye on this guy’ are some of the comments I notice.” Check it out in the lyric video here:

breathe follows on from last year’s single beautifully fatal and Eric’s debut album Dark Matter, which includes more catchy metal tracks like Oblivion, Pressure and Without You, which features a cool little stabbing guitar riff giving way to a funky solo, and the intense Deception.

Eric’s music is influenced by the likes of In This Moment, Bring Me The Horizon and Bad Omens. “I write based off of all my life experiences. If you listen to the lyrics and know me as a person it’s almost like an open book. I got married young and recently went through a divorce which inspired Pressure and beautifully fatal. I also like to write where I have my message, but someone can fill in their own blanks to have the song appeal to them. I write for a mood with my own experiences/story in mind.”

Eric plans to release a new single every couple of months through the rest of the year. The band also has a headlining gig coming on 16 May at The Zone at Clemson in Middletown, NY, where they’ll be performing a lot of new material.

And Eric added: “I always tell people to follow your passion and don’t let haters rag you down. Stay focused on your vision and stay genuine to yourself.”
