On The Radar | Final Thirteen – Wide Eyed Lullabies

We’ve previously hamstrung ourselves with a ridiculous self-imposed rule to not write follow-up articles on bands. But we’re changing that with a new site feature On The Radar, which focuses on new music released by new rock and metal bands.

We’re kicking off On The Radar with Northern Irish band Final Thirteen’s fifth single, Wide Eyed Lullabies, which was released yesterday. The power trio of Ax (vocals), James-Darren (J.D., guitar and vocals) and Doobes (drums and vocals) blend elements of metal, rock and indie into an engaging sound they describe as “M’indie rock.”

Describing the Final Thirteen sound, J.D. told us: “We aim with every note, every syllable and every beat to make music that people can get up and dance to, be it live, in a club or just in your kitchen. To those that have already seen us live and enjoyed the show, you will love the next show even more each time you see us, we are ever learning and constantly striving to up our game with every show.”

We first introduced you to Final Thirteen in November, around the release of their second single Say Please Stay! And it’s safe to say they’ve been busy since then. They went on to release their debut EP, The Remastered EP, which featured their four previous single releases and gained over 100,000 streams on Spotify.

As the name of the latest track suggests, it shows off a more laid-back and melodic side to the band. Wide Eyed Lullabies opens up with a spoken sample then vocals copied by a little guitar noise before effects-ridden guitars and funky little high-pitched blasts support Ax’s engaging vocals. The pace picks up with driving guitars and backing vocals joining in through a raucous chorus, which gives way to a funky little guitar lick. J.D.’s vocals then take the lead, flowing into another lively chorus that ends with a little guitar solo before the pace drops with light guitars and drums building up to a final chorus.

Final Thirteen will be out on tour across the UK in June, starting at Bloc in Glasgow on 4 Junes, then consecutive nights in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Carlisle and London. They’ll then be playing in Drogheda on 11 June and Belfast on 13 June.

You can follow Final Thirteen on FacebookInstagram and TikTok, and check out their music on SpotifyApple Music and YouTube.

We’ll be featuring more new music from bands we’ve already covered in future On The Radar articles, so stay tuned for more shortly!
