We recently launched a new feature section, On The Radar, which allows us to revisit bands we’ve previously interviewed with brief single/album reviews. Check out the first On The Radar feature on Northern Irish trio Final Thirteen.
Our On The Radar feature continues by introducing three new tracks from bands we previously interviewed and discovered through music discovery platform Groover. Today, we bring you two new singles from heavy French bands and a more laid-back offering from a Canadian band.
The Dislockers – Haters
French band The Dislockers fuse metal, hardcore and hip-hop in a bune-crushingly heavy but engaging sound. We discovered the Nantes band back in January with their fourth single Someone Else. The band’s latest offering, Haters, is an absolute assault on the senses that they describe as “an anthem for the misunderstood, the misjudged, and anyone who’s ever been told to stay silent.”
Haters, which features Arthur Alternatif from Alternight, opens up with a pulsing synth then light vocals explode into heavy guitars and wild synth sounds before an intense opening verse led by powerful vocals. The intensity continued with ludicrously heavy low-tuned guitars, before stabbing guitars support dual screamed vocals and eerie drawn-out synths and plodding guitars build a powerful atmosphere. The pace suddenly drops with choral vocals, which continue with spoken vocals and building instrumentals before dropping into a huge breakdown led by vicious vocals and disgustingly heavy guitars bringing the track to a huge ending.
On the track, the band told us: “Fueled by raw aggression and emotional resilience, Haters tears through the toxic culture of online hate with explosive riffs, relentless breakdowns, and a chorus that roars with defiance. Born from a spoken-word poem turned sonic firestorm, the lyrics confront internet trolls and faceless critics head-on – reminding them, and the world, that true strength lies in rising above the noise.
“Arthur Alternatif’s guest vocals bring a unique edge to the track, bridging the gap between digital subculture and the brutal honesty of metalcore. His presence amplifies the message: no matter how loud the hate, it can’t drown out authenticity. This is not just a song – it’s resistance.” Check it out in the video below.

The Purple Helmets – Escape From Which Mountain
Nova Scotia collective The Purple Helmets have delighted Canadian audiences since the 80s with their raucous indie power pop meets garage rock sound. We first met the band when we discussed them releasing their first music since 1996 back in January, hooking us in with their single Criminal of Love. Since then, they’ve been busy releasing their album Weirdo Squad with a waterfall of single releases, the latest of which is Escape From Which Mountain.
It opens up with laid-back engaging vocals and light guitars and a funky little guitar lick loops into a verse supported by backing vocals. A cool guitar solo takes over, which drops back into mellow vocals and guitars and continues into delicious repeats of “She’s caught in a world where she doesn’t really belong.”
On the track, the band said: “Escape from Which Mountain is a song reflecting on the demands, expectations and pressures society has placed on our youth and young adults through social media influences and how many ‘likes’ one must achieve for acceptance. It delves into the struggles with confidence, fitting in and conforming to presumed societal norms. And while there may be supports around you, one needs to experience the struggles to transform and finally realize a metamorphosis to freedom. The bossanova and slide guitars with haunting vocals wind the listener through this ‘Escape’ with whispers of REM, Mathew Sweet and early Death Cab for Cutie.” Check it out in the stream below.

S.Y.G.M.A – Euphoria
Staying in France, duo S.Y.G.M.A combine groove and melodic hardcore in a powerful and intriguing sound. We first chatted to the band back in December, also for their fourth single The Countdown.
That’s been followed by Euphoria, which starts with light guitar and whispery vocals that feed into intense dual vocals and stabbing guitars. The pace slows with whispery vocals and light bass, before picking up again with the wild vocals that end on heavy screams. A building section of engaging vocals takes over, ending in another chorus of repeated vocals. Check it out in the video below.
