If you’re heading to the iconic Bloodstock Festival this weekend (7-10 August), you have an opportunity to discover some standout new British metal talent led by recent Metal 2 The Masses winners tealdeer and Surya.
The Bloodstock lineup features headline acts Trivium, Machine Head and Gojira, as well as the likes of Lacuna Coil, Mastodon, Emperor, Orange Goblin, Creeper, The Black Dahlia Murder and our former New Band of the Week Cage Fight playing on the Ronnie James Dio Stage. But they’ll be joined at Catton Park in Derbyshire by a mass of new metal bands , such as another of our previous New Band of the Week, The Cartographer, on the Timothy Taylors New Blood Stage.

The new British talent includes two new breakout bands in Midlands act tealdeer and Leeds band Surya.
tealdeer offer up an eclectic, high-concept dose of chaos that they describe as “ominous deer anthems. ” The band draws on influences ranging from System of a Down and Dance Gavin Dance to black-and-white horror films and sixteenth-century carnival music, which promises a theatrical, intense and utterly captivating show.
The band dropped their superb second album menace back in June, which incldues standout tracks like intriguing opener sign here, the wild and wonderful waltz of the worthy, which you can check out in the video, and the vicious yet oddly catchy the devil’s toybox.
Speaking on the shock M2TM victory that earned their place at the world-famous festival, drummer Rob Green said: “If you’d have told me, earlier this year, that we’d be playing Bloodstock. I would have slapped you in the face. I’m sat here, typing this up, trying to find the words for playing Bloodstock, but I can’t find the words! We couldn’t be more excited and honoured, and we’ll be having the time of our lives watching and playing with all of the bands on the New Blood stage. Become Deer. Let’s get it.”
Joining them at the event are Leeds band Surya, who offer up a fusion of crushing heaviness and technical precision. The band toes the line between tech metal, deathcore and ambient soundscapes that deliver an enticingly aggressive yet atmospheric sound.
Having already played alongside the likes of Heart Of A Coward, Sikth, Unprocessed and Ingested, playing Bloodstock marks a significant new chapter for Yorkshire band. Surya dropped their debut EP Immemorial last year, which includes the crushing opening track Crows, the deliciously powerful Shattered Thrones and their vicious debut single Prophets. Since then, they’ve released two more singles Sentiment and their atmospheric and heavy riffing latest release Eternal, which you can check out in the video below.
Speaking on their M2TM success, the band said: “We are beyond proud to have won our Metal 2 The Masses competition and to be bringing our heavy sound to the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock 2025. This moment is the result of years of relentless passion, loud rehearsals and the unwavering support of our fans.
“To be selected to perform at the UK’s premier metal festival, sharing a line-up with some of the most iconic names in heavy music is a huge honour and milestone for us. We are ready to leave everything on that stage. We’ll be performing our brand new single and delivering a set that reflects exactly who we are – intense, uncompromising and unyielding in our passion for this. To everyone who came to a show, sang along to our songs, joined us in the pit, or supported us along the way – this is your victory too. See you all in the pit at Bloodstock 2025.”
Bloodstock 2025 runs from 7–10 August at Catton Park, Derbyshire, and promises to be one of the UK’s heaviest weekends of the year. Tickets are still available to see tealdeer and Surya bring able support to some of the biggest names in the metal scene.
