Introducing: Sleazy Money

Welsh rockers Sleazy Money are bringing back the party with a fun, filthy and fast old-school, hard-riffing sound that they describe as “abrasive, venomous and uncompromising.”

The Merthy Tydfil band is formed of Connor Palmer (vocals), Joe Florence (guitar), Frank Cross (bass) and Morgan Price (drums). Connor, Frank and Joe have known each other since they were teenagers and met Morgan at a pub and, in their words, “got speaking over a big session and went from there.”

Describing the sound they’ve crafted since, Connor said: “We’re a throwback to when rock music wasn’t boring.” And Joe added: “Yeah, we believe rock fell out of fashion after the early 2000s when everyone started sounding the same and being all miserable. 80s rock was all about the fun and the party, and that’s why it was topping the charts. We want to bring that feeling back!”

Our latest taste of this is the band’s fourth single, It Ain’t EZ, which was released last month. It opens up with a chunky guitar riff that continues under a sweeping guitar note and picks up pace with driving drums and little guitar flurries. Connor’s engaging vocals take over with chugging guitar chord support and little high-pitched flurries. A little pre-chorus flows into a big catchy chorus “It ain’t easy, Easy being sleazy, But it’s the only thing I know, It ain’t easy, Easy being sleazy, Living die fast and dying slow.” Another lively verse feeds into an extended chorus, then the pace drops with Connor’s vocals supported by rolling drums and drawn-out guitars. Heavier guitars kick in, and tee up a final blast of the chorus before coming to a powerful conclusion.

On the track, Connor told us: “The reception has been absolutely amazing! We knew it was a great track but when you’re having people come up to you in the street and start singing it to you, it’s something else! We’ve had podcast opportunities, radio, interviews, and gig offers off the back of it!”

And Frank added: “If you haven’t watched the video, it’s a dirty, no-holds-barred rock n roll tune with a killer video to boot!” Check it out below.

That follows on from recent single Unlucky 13, which you can check out in the video below, and last year’s debut single Problem Since Day 1 and its follow-up Shoot From The Hip.

The Sleazy Money sound has been influenced by a wide range of music, based on a core love of 80s legends like Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Guns ‘n Roses, Warrant, Slaughter and WASP. Joe loves a bit of 80s thrash like Metallica and Megadeth, Morgan likes pop-punk bands like Blink-182, Neck Deep, The Story So Far and Title Fight, and Franky loves hardcore acts like Turnstile, Trapped Under Ice, Your Demise and Terror.

And on what inspires them to write music, Joe told us: “We’ve always been into creating music since young but as we said, what motivates us is to bring back what rock should be, fun. An escape from the pressures of everyday life, not a deep dive of them.”

And Connor added: “Yeah, there’s definitely a place for sad or deep music, but it shouldn’t be in every single track – we want to give you songs that make you want to party, not cry!”

Sleazy Money are currently mulling over ideas for their next move, but promise this is only the beginning for the band. “We’re quiet for the rest of the year so far, that will more than likely change very quickly if the past is anything to go by,” Joe said. “We want to work with new promoters and hit new cities in the UK so if you put shows on, and you like what you hear, hit us up and let’s get to work!

And Connor added: “Yes! We want to get on the road, man! We’ve done a few trips and it’s what we want to be doing, so help a small band out, while we’re still a small band. We don’t plan on being small for long!”
