If ghosts are real, it’s more than feasible that the secret to bringing the spirits back to life would be a catchy yet feisty modern metal sound like that cooked up by exciting French band Cure For The Ghost. The band combines engaging vocals with powerful riffs and soaring synth soundscapes in an engaging, hard-hitting fusion that they describe as “authentic, melodic and energetic.”
Cure For The Ghost, who hail from the Annecy area in southwestern France, have been around since 2017 and slowly evolved over the years. Although the founding member is no longer in the band, their friendships and bonds have led them to the current lineup of Jordan Gazeau, Anthony Mongellaz, Cedric Petit-Jean, Julien Bouvier, Hugo Beauvillain and Julien Eveno.
On the sound they’ve crafted, Jordan told us: “Cure For The Ghost is a journey. We have a recognisable sonic signature: the foundations of metal infused with a melodic and accessible touch. We love the idea of introducing people to the face of metal through songs that combine heaviness and emotion.”
Our latest taste of this is Tempest, which was released last week. It immediately hooks you in with a blitz of big synths, guitars and drums, which drop into feisty opening vocals “I walk into my own insanity, Once again, a place full of misery, Ready to fight my demons one more time, Look into my eyes, I will not turn back.” The intensity builds with blastbeat drums teeing up a big singalong chorus “I am the tempest, the storm untamed, In the echoes of my madness, Through the chaos, I’ll carve my fate, In the symphony I create.”
A second verse builds with growled vocals developing into vicious screams over stabbing guitars, which set up another big chorus. That ends with heavy blastbeat drums and guitars over a spinning guitar lick, which sets up a big final blast of the chorus.
On the track, Jordan said: “The response to Tempest has been amazing! We’ve received so much positive feedback, especially about the chorus—it’s catchy and stays in people’s heads. We’re really happy with how things are going so far, and it gives us even more motivation for what’s next.”
Tempest is the latest in a series of singles over the last couple of years, including this year’s intense Trinity, which you can check out in the lyric video below, and last year’s powerful Storm.
But a personal favourite is the very nu-metal sounding Running For Myself, which begins with rolling drums dropping into a chunky riff and backing synths. Engaging vocals “I’ve never felt this sober, Still digging for the answer, For all the time that I’ve spent, I don’t fucking know who I am” take over. It increases in intensity before flowing into a big catchy chorus “I’m done with chasing my shadows again, I’m getting ahead and start running for myself, I’m letting go of all the things you said, I’m getting ahead and I’m running, I’m running, I’m running for myself.” That drops into a big blast of guitars, synths and drums, then a cool bending riff supports dual clean and screamed vocals. The pace drops, teeing up a return of the big chorus, after which the pace slows again before a wild smash of heavy instrumentals and vocals, then big screams and driving guitars tee up a final chorus.
The Cure For The Ghost sound has been heavily shaped by bands like Linkin Park, Bring Me The Horizon, and Bad Omens. And on what inspires them to write music, Jordan explained: “Our lyrics often deal with emotions and personal struggles, but always with a clear message: you can overcome anything if you’re willing to fight for it. When we compose, we usually start with the theme of the lyrics and the kind of energy we want to transmit. We focus on the emotion we want the listener to feel—and then we let the magic happen.”
If you like what you’ve heard from Cure For The Ghost then you’re in luck as the band has completed recording and mixing a new batch of songs that will be released through the rest of the year. They’re also planning a video release and have a few shows lined up across France and Switzerland.
And Jordan added: “We truly value connection and human interaction. We’d be proud to welcome everyone into our Ghost Family. Feel free to follow us on social media, share your thoughts, and tell us about your experience discovering our music. We can’t wait to take you on a journey with the Ghost!”
