Introducing: Mind Traveller

The sound of Spanish band Mind Traveller has evolved over the years but, after a lengthy hiatus, they’re back with a thrillingly powerful, groove-packed metalcore approach that they describe as “intense, emotive and hopeful.”

The Cáceres band started out back in 2010 with a heavy Scandinavian power metal influence. Their sound evolved towards metalcore, building up to their debut album All The Signs before taking a seven-year hiatus in 2017. They returned last year with a mix of founding members and new blood in the current lineup of David BG (vocals), Marcos Castelló (keyboards and guitars), Samuel Batle (bass), Raúl Guisado and Pablo Sierra (guitars) and Ademir Arias (drums). That gave the Mind Traveller sound a new twist and added maturity, launching with the comeback track From The Ashes.

On the sound they’ve crafted, the band told us: “We’re a metalcore band rooted in the best of the 2000s era, but with a modern edge and nuances that make the sound unmistakably ours. Our music balances heaviness with subtlety, and every song carries a message with depth.”

Our latest taste of this is Gaslight, which was released a couple of weeks ago. It opens up with rolling drums that continue under a lively guitar lick then a barrage of intense vocals and driving guitar riffs. Heavier guitars and crashing cymbals support a pre-chorus that explodes into a powerful chorus led by vicious screamed vocals. It flows straight into another intense verse that ends with chugging low-tuned guitars under more vicious screams.

On the track, the band said: “Gaslight is the heaviest, most visceral song we’ve released since our comeback, and we honestly didn’t know how people would take it. The reaction has been overwhelming. Listeners have connected deeply with both the lyrics, written by Sara López and born out of our personal experience, and the video, which visually captures that raw energy. The power of the track also comes from the production, handled by Sam George (Pick Up Goliath) at Mammoth Sound Studio, who has been behind every song in this new chapter.”

Gaslight is the third single since their comeback, following on from the deliciously atmospheric Fracture, which comes to a big djenty conclusion that you can check out in the video below. That was preceded by the aforementioned From The Ashes, which opens up with heavy guitars over a haunting synth sound before exploding into engaging vocals over stabbing guitars, which flow into a powerful chorus.

The Mind Traveller sound has been shaped by bands like Born of Osiris and Periphery, before drawing on influences from modern bands like Architects and Polaris. shaped our path. As the band explained: “We never lose sight of each member’s personal influences, which bring the nuances that define our own identity. We’re united in our vision, even though each member brings their own taste and influences. That diversity gives our music its richness. Lyrically, everything comes from lived experience, which makes the songs feel authentic and unmistakably ours.”

There’s plenty more to come from Mind Traveller, who plan to release a couple more singles through the rest of this year. That should build up to their second albun, which they hope to release by the end of next year. They’ve also got gigs lined up across Spain, which you can check out here, with ambitions to play beyond their homeland next year.

And the band added: “We believe we have something unique to offer in today’s crowded music world. We invite anyone reading this to check out our songs and come to a show – you’ll see the same passion and intensity on stage that you hear in the music.”

You can follow Mind Traveller on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter and TikTok, and check out their music on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer and YouTube.
