Introducing: Ressentiment Superlibre Masculin Hardcore

Parisian collective Ressentiment Superlibre Masculin Hardcore fuse grindcore, rap, metal and industrial music “in an incoherent fashion” in a sound they summarise as “Grindcore, Rap, GRAPE!”

The trio of MC Blé, MC Goret and MC Shinobi, whose name translates to Superfree Male Hardcore Resentment, describe themselves as “a bunch of fat looneys, who love to cause trouble and talk huge bullshit.” The trio’s origins are cloudy, with tales including MC Shinobi being raised by monkey monks in Tibet, where he learnt the arts of insult rap and extreme metal while throwing faeces.

What we do know is MC Shinobi grew up in the US before meeting the other two guys through mutual friends, they ended up playing in the same metal bands before ending up in Ressentiment Superlibre Masculin Hardcore. And, on the sound they’ve honed, they summarise their music as: “The brain child of humanity’s lowest instincts and of society’s darkest corners.

To give us a taste for this, the band sent us Le Bal Des Trous D’balle (The Ball of the Bullet Holes) from their latest album Pas De Pitié Vous Allez Tous Crever (No mercy, you’re all going to die), which was released in May. It opens up with sampled vocals that give way to intense screamed vocals and chugging guitars. Spoken vocals take over and quickly drop back into the screams over intense drums, stabbing guitars and a piercing synth. Menacing rapped vocals come in with increasingly heavy drums, feeding into a big chorus that ends with intense screamed vocals teeing up a lively conclusion.

On the track, MC Blé said: “Depends who’s listening… some will hate it, others will love it, either being fine to me. We don’t compromise based on how people will listen to our music.”

Pas De Pitié Vous Allez Tous Crever, the band’s fourth album, is packed with more metal meets rap goodness. It goes in hard from the off with Rsmh IV, before the atmospheric Joe and big feisty tracks like Matrix Off, Gen Z, Woke Haine and lively final track Judgment Day, which is powered along by a driving riff and very nu-metal stabbing guitars. There’s plenty more to get stuck into on their previous albums too, including the absolutely wild Myzogenie on last year’s Le Retour Des Grosses Couilles Bien Pendantes (The Return of the Big, Hanging Balls).

The Ressentiment Superlibre Masculin Hardcore sound has been influenced by a wide range of rap and metal. MC Blé tells us he’s mostly stuck in 90s music as well as the likes of Nasty, Get the Shot and Dope D.O.D. MC Goret listens to bands like Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Kiss it Goodbye, Cypress Hill and Dope D.O.D. and MC Shinobi is into the likes of Ministry, Tupac, Morbid Angel, Wu-Tang, Nas, Mobb Depp, Converge, Bodycount and Rollins Band.

The trio are already working on their fifth album, which they tell us will be “way more hardcore” than Pas de Pitié Vous Allez Tous Crever. As MC Shinobi tells us: “If you like hardcore shit with the darkest of humors, just give us a try and you might end up giving us the rose.”
