Norwegian band LIVERUM have crafted a death metal meets progressive metal sound that fuses intense vocals with hypnotic soundscapes. But this is far from your stereotypical metal band, with the members sharing a passion for the outdoors along with creating music that’s “groovy, atmospheric and meaningful.”
Based in Oslo, the band is formed of Adrian Dzieciol (vocals and guitar), Samuel Andreas Haugum (guitar), Marcin Dziecoil (bass) and Norbert Bucko (drums), several of whom moved from Poland during middle school. The band members are big into nature, especially Samuel, who apparently spent a few nights sleeping in the forest, as well as sports like climbing and mountain biking.
And on the sound they’ve crafted, Adrian told us: “I’d describe our music as full of contrast. Yes, we love heavy metal, but we also love giving space to atmospheric sections, maybe even too much sometimes, but that’s genuinely how we feel and express the music.”
Our latest taste of this is the captivating Arctic Breeze, which was released last week. It opens up with a light bending guitar riff, joined by slow drums and light cymbal taps, before being joined by a chugging guitar. It drops into a high-pitched guitar as Adrian’s engaging vocals take over in an atmospheric verse. A delicious fast-paced low guitar kicks in and gives way to heavier vocals, which drops into a funky section of drum and bass, before looping guitar notes tee up a calmer verse. The intensity builds with powerful vocals over delicious guitars that bring the track to a melodic conclusion.
On the track, Adrian said: “We’re extremely happy with how well the reception has been. I really want to thank everyone who supports us — your feedback gives us a lot of wind in our wings! For those who haven’t heard it yet: it’s a meaningful track filled with groovy, death-metal-driven moments.” Check it out with one of the most impressive metal video locations you’re likely to see below.
Arctic Breeze follows on from Digital Space, the first single from the band’s upcoming second album, which will be released nine years on from their debut Discover Your Land. Digital Space starts out with fun guitar chords separated by harmonic retorts, which feed into a mellow opening verse. It picks up pace before a mass of big atmospheric guitars and vocals, which you can check out in the video below.
Adrian tells us his favourite bands when he started writing music included the likes of Gojira, Morbid Angel and Sepultura. However, his tastes have evolved and their newer music is shaped by progressive metal and even dark folk artists like Wardruna and Heilung.
And on what inspires them to write music, Adrian explained: ” It changes over time, but overall, I just genuinely enjoy playing and creating. I don’t need any external push to pick up the guitar. If anything, the more challenges I face, the more I create, because playing is such a powerful way for me to relax and clear my mind. I have so many ideas I hope we’ll be able to record, because I truly feel the right direction for us is to continue research on music!”
Arctic Breeze was the final single before LIVERUM’s second album, which should be released in January or February 2026. “We created both of our music videos ourselves,” Adrian added. “Recording an album is expensive and our budget had its limits, but since I have a professional camera, I decided to learn how to do it. We booked the locations and just went for it, although it definitely wasn’t simple!”
