Teenage sister duo Alt Blk Era took their R&B, soul, reggae and rap roots and fused them with heavy guitars, orchestral and unnerving sounds to create a diverse sound they describe as “powerful, sincere and creepy” – which had us immediately fascinated.

The result is pretty special, with soaring vocals and solos countered by powerful riffs and rhythms in a sound they describe as “powerful, intricate and compelling.”

London-based band 4FOXSAKE are on a mission to challenge social barriers with an explosive sound that harnesses elements of punk, hard rock and metal, and they describe as “loud, anthemic and catchy.”

New Band of the Week: Dire Thorns

In our near-seven years of running this blog, we’ve encountered a new first – a band offering up dual language Russian and English vocals. This intriguing proposition is courtesy of Lincolnshire newcomers Dire Thorns, a young, masked band offering up an old-school death metal meets nu-metal sound that they describe as “heavy, bilingual and poorly-produced.”

Having grown up in Herefordshire, it’s not too often I discover a new band that hails from the same rural location. However, the brilliantly named Your Future Is Metal is one such band, which started out back in 2011 but gradually evolved through to the current project that began in 2020.
