New Band of the Week: Donnie Willow

The first time I checked out Glasgow's Donnie Willow I was instantly hooked by their fusion of hooky guitar riffs and vocals, and alt-rock meets hardcore sound. Then, having found them on Facebook, I became obsessed with one of their fans' comments, which claimed that their new EP Exhibition is "like listening to Elton John... Continue Reading →

Introducing: VALUES

British metal music is in a hell of a good place right now, and you can add to the ever-evolving mix the brutally heavy sound of Leeds rockers VALUES. These guys fuse huge riffs and screamed vocals with some insane drum action and random moments of lovely melody, in a way few others can. Born... Continue Reading →

Introducing: Neon Dolls

If you were asked to describe why you love rock music, what would you say? My hunch is that Leeds rockers Neon Dolls' depiction of themselves as "loud guitars, distorted bass and thunderous drums and an awesome singer" would be bang on the money. The five-piece have honed an infectious sound that draws on the... Continue Reading →

Gig Review: 2000 Trees Festival – Saturday

After a stonking day of seeing awesome bands on Friday of 2000 Trees Festival that included many, many hours of alcohol consumption, it's safe to say Saturday got off to a slow start. But the next 15 hours or so made the hangover seem a very distant memory with probably the best day of music I've ever experienced.

New Band of the Week: wars

If you've made the wise choice to head to 2000 Trees this weekend then you'll want to add 12.25pm on Friday at The Cave Stage to your Clashfinder, because mighty Rugby-based rockers wars are a must-see act on this year's line-up. The band has mastered the art of merging brutal screamed vocals with huge riffs... Continue Reading →

New Band of the Week: Harbour Sharks

Kingston rockers Harbour Sharks have mastered the art of blending big heavy metalcore with moments of deliciously catchy melody. This ability has, inevitably, led to comparisons to certain bands and, as a massive fan of the beasts that are Beartooth, it was music to my ears to be introduced to them as 'for fans of... Introducing: Cuecliché

Just under a year ago Terry Rytz, deep into a nine-year hiatus from music, went along to see Blink-182 perform an acoustic show at The Rose Theatre in Kingston. The show was so good that it inspired him to get back onto the music wagon and a month or so later his new punk rock... Continue Reading →

Introducing: Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics

It's often said that a change does you the world of good and Aaron Buchanan is testament to that old adage. The singer is taking it to the next level having formed Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics last year and launched a superb debut album last month. The London five-piece, completed by Laurie Buchanan... Continue Reading →

Introducing: Vertebrae

When a band describes themselves to me as 'loud, energetic, melodic' they essentially tick all three boxes in my musical listening criteria. This much goes for London-based rockers Vertebrae. The trio of Daire Mulvihill (vocals and guitar), Josh Clark (bass) and Jonny (drums), who was the latest addition earlier this year, are now based in... Continue Reading →

Introducing: Pryti

Ever wondered what Lana Del Rey fused with the Deftones would sound like? Well you're in luck, because Birmingham-hailing solo artist Pryti attests to be exactly that with her brand of dark, melancholic rock. Pryti's sound has been honed from a wide range of influences from Deftones and Linkin Park through to Sarah McLachlan, Ani DiFranco... Continue Reading →
