Teenage sister duo Alt Blk Era took their R&B, soul, reggae and rap roots and fused them with heavy guitars, orchestral and unnerving sounds to create a diverse sound they describe as "powerful, sincere and creepy" - which had us immediately fascinated.
Our first New Band of the Week of 2021 may well be the first to have fused hard rock, metal and reggae. Spar Marta have honed a unique sound that jumps between full-on heavy riffing and more laid-back delicious vocals, with a sprinkling of funk for good measure.
One genre we've been sadly lacking coverage of over the last few years has been ska, but we're putting that right in fine fashion with seven-piece reggae rock meets ska punk band FUBAR.
