Introducing: Full Nothing

International band Full Nothing offers up an alluring dark rock and alternative metal sound that fuses progressive, melodic and symphonic elements.

The band is the brainchild of composer and guitarist Nicolás Marcos, who works with musicians from all around the world who share the same musical interests. Those musicians include guitarist Cristian Vidal, keyboard player Guillermo De Medio, bassist Charlie Giardina, drummer Fernando Scarsella, a whole host of vocalists, and the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra.

Describing the sound he’s crafted, Nicolás told us: “It is a world of musical contrasts united by the sound of modern metal, with the voices being the main focus of attention.”

To get a taste for this, the band sent us Only Human from Our Legacy, which, impressively, is the first of two albums released last year. It opens up with light instrumentals and spoken vocals, which are followed by laid-back vocals and strings. It suddenly explodes into a chunky riff and driving drums, and big screamed vocals from South African vocalist Joel Dickson take over. That feeds into a powerful singalong chorus supported by atmospheric strings and backing vocals.

The intensity immediately increases with big screams, feeding into a wild second verse before the pace drops to set up another chorus. Big screamed vocals give way to high-pitched guitars and a piercing solo, with the pace building up to then drop into a moment of calm and a laid-back guitar solo that brings the track to an atmospheric conclusion.

On the track, Nicolás told us: “It has had a good impact on our audience and we seek to reach other people who are attracted to extreme rhythms and guttural voices. We have explored the most aggressive part of our music in this song, contrasting it with melodic elements that characterize us.”

The use of different vocalists – including the fantastic Christina Rotondo, who we’ve featured previously in her band Adelyn and features on Come Undone on the Our Legacy album, Kate Metz, Joel Dickson, Juha Kylmänen and Tom Englund – brings a sense of intrigue to the Full Nothing sound. Add to that the delicious symphonic elements, and we’re very much onto a winner.

The new album, The Perfect Animal, which was released on New Year’s Eve, is packed with plenty more rock/metal goodness, including excellent opening track Under Control, the anthemic Wide Awake, which drops into a filthy little riff halfway through, and the more hard-hitting Nocturnal Eyes.

The Full Nothing sound is inspired by the likes of classic bands like Dream Theater, through to Katatonia and Evergrey and the metalcore edge of the likes of Bring Me The Horizon and Asking Alexandria.

And on what inspires them to write music, Nicolás told us: “All types of music, listening in detail you will be able to hear all types of influences made available to a global sound that we try to preserve as the common thread of our albums.”

Full Nothing’s priority right now is to promote The Perfect Animal for our listening pleasure. And Nicolás added: “We have a lot of audio and video content on our social networks. Everyone is welcome to participate and enjoy our passion for the music of this project.”
