Introducing: ADORE

French rockers ADORE offer up a dramatic, diverse sound that fuses alternative rock with electronic elements and they describe as “energy, power and electric.”

ADORE started out back in 2019 with longtime friends Franco/Japanese singer/songwriter Adrien and experimental guitarist Lionel. They released an EP and album over the next two years before completing the lineup with bassist and backing vocalist Alice and drummer Quentin.

On the sound they’ve crafted, Adrien told us: “We’re influenced by American and British rock bands, as well as electro-rock artists from recent years. People often say our sound is close to Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood… and even Linkin Park in some aspects!”

ADORE’s first track with the full band lineup is Twisted Echoes, which was released last month, and features what may well be a GigRadar-first, vocals in three languages: English, French and Japanese. It opens up with an effects-ridden light guitar that continues under Adrien’s laid-back French vocals. Stabbing electronic sounds kick in as it builds up to a big chorus of English vocals “Sarah, you don’t have to be cruel, You don’t have to be sorry, Not all of us are your tool, Let me expect the glory, Yeah I’m tired of my life, Being stuck in misery, You don’t have to be cruel, You don’t have to be sorry.” Alice takes on the lead vocals through a second verse that again builds up to a big chorus, which repeats then drops into a mass of guitar and synth sounds setting up a final chorus.

On the track, Adrien told us: “We’re really happy because the track has been extremely well received by our audience and the media, both for the songwriting, the mixing, and the accompanying video. We feel like we’ve truly asserted our musical identity with this new release. What you can expect from this track: a powerful, electric, and addictive song. For the first time, it features three languages (French, Japanese, English) — our singer Adrien is Franco-Japanese — and much stronger electro-rock influences than in our previous songs.”

That track is ADORE’s first release since the 2021 EP Upside Down, which is packed with rocky goodness like opener Fading Away, which you can check out in the video below.

As alluded to, ADORE draw on British and American rock influences and, for the most recent release, electro-rock artists like Grandson and Imagine Dragons. “Our songs often stem from personal experiences or feelings that lead to broader reflections,” Adrien explained. “The sense of urgency related to the passing of time, the quest for fulfillment, and the pressures of modern life are among the themes that particularly inspire us.”

There’s plenty more to come from ADORE, who are currently recording the singles that will follow the release of Twisted Echoes, as well as shooting the next music video. They’re also preparing for a busy summer of gigging, with around 10 shows planned across France, including gigs in Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Essonne, Aube and Pas-de-Calais. And they have plans to work on an international tour, so stay tuined for more on that.

And Adrien adds: “The Twisted Echoes music video explores a cyberpunk, futuristic world — and even features a surprise cameo by someone who appeared in the latest James Bond film… but we won’t spoil anything!”
