Introducing: We Told You So

Québec band We Told You So delivers raw riffs and rebellious vocals in a high-energy punk rock sound that they describe as “energetic, honest and uplifting.”

The band, from Trois-Rivières, between Québec City and Montreal, started back in 2015 when then-roommates Jim Giguere (vocals) and Mathieu Massicotte (guitar) began writing songs together. Their mission was to create original music, pure ideas and raw energy. A few years later, they onboarded Dany Clément (drums) and Ambro O’Higgins (bass) to complete the lineup, and they pushed forward with a DIY spirit and passion for punk rock.

On the sound they’ve crafted, the band told us: “Our sound is rooted in skate-punk and melodic punk rock, with a modern edge. Expect fast riffs, driving bass lines, and anthemic choruses, all tied together with lyrics that come from real-life experiences. If you’re into bands that make you want to move, sing along, and maybe throw a fist in the air, you’ll feel right at home with We Told You So.”

Our latest taste of this Pas Besoin D’toé (No Need For You), which was released on Friday (3 October). It hooks you in from the start with driving drums and a darting guitar under a fast-paced punky lick, then a lively riff and rapid drums support a verse of feisty vocals. A cheeky little bassline kicks in and tees up a big shoutalong chorus. It flies straight into another fun verse before coming to a short and sweet conclusion.

On the track, the band said: “We’re super excited for people to finally hear Pas besoin de toé! It’s a track that blends our melodic side with our punk rock roots — fast, direct, and catchy. The song is about letting go of toxic relationships and moving forward stronger, which is something we believe a lot of people can connect with. Listeners should expect a burst of energy, attitude, and a chorus that stays in your head.”

Pas Besoin D’toé follows on from a few singles released last year. That includes the more melodic Pabst Blue Ribbon, the big anthemic Civil Disobedience, which is sure to be a crowd pleaser, and the more intense Dead Inside. And those singles followed on from the band’s 2018 debut album Fairy Tales for Grown Ups.
