South Florida band Chasing Stars have crafted an intriguingly diverse rock and metal sound that they describe as “emotional, revealing and introspective.”
The band started out in January 2025 with lead vocalist Miguel and lead guitarist Desi, before releasing their debut single FALLING and starting to build out the full band.
On the sound they’ve crafted since, Miguel told us: “We bring elements from different genres like synthwave, pop and R&B, but it all falls under rock or metal. Regardless of the medium. For the instrumentation we use, we try to focus on what we need to make every song unique and tell a story.”
Our latest taster of this is Heartless Machine, which was released in August. It opens up with darting synth sounds joined by a pulsing synth, which give way to mellow high-pitched vocals. A pulsing synth creeps back in, before exploding into heavier vocals leading a big singalong chorus. The pace slows again, before drums and guitars kick in under engaging vocals, and a cool stabbing riff tees up another big chorus.
On the track, Miguel told us: “Heartless Machine is a song that we feel is the underlying tone of Chasing stars. The reception has been mixed, with some people really enjoying the track and others not so much, which we believe to be perfectly OK. But they all say the same thing, ‘These lyrics are very deep,’ and that’s all we can ask for!”
That follows on the more electronic Cybernetic Heart and their debut single FALLING, which showcases the heavier edge to Chasing Stars. Heavier guitars support the verse before a big catchy chorus which, second time around, feeds into crushing guitars and screamed vocals.
The Chasing Stars sound draws on a wide range of inspirations, from anime to cyberpunk. As Miguel says: “We take a little from everything we listen to since all of our musical interests are diverse. It’s very hard to pinpoint artists, but we have a few mutuals like Architects and The Midnight. Mostly we take a lot of influence from anime. Something about it just inspires us to write. Heartless Machine was written after watching Cyberpunk: Edgerunners!”
There’s plenty more to come from Chasing Stars, who’ve finished work on their debut EP and are ramping up their efforts to secure live shows.
And Miguel added: “I think this is the first time I have said this, but our music is based on a Sci-Fi novel I wrote last year titled Heartless Machine. On our social pages we shoot episodes of this book to tell the story.”
