Introducing: Eden On Fire

Pennsylvania band Eden On Fire packs a punch with a powerful symphonic metal and hard rock sound that they describe as “melodic, heavy and emotional.”

The Erie band got together when vocalist Amy Gould found her way back to making music during the pandemic after spending a long time away from singing in a metal band. Amy used writing as a lifeline, using the lockdown period as an opportunity to write a bunch of songs that formed the band’s debut album. When the world opened back up, she began looking for like-minded musicians and, despite a few changes along the way, she’s joined by bassist Scott Hagerty, who’s been part of the project since the very beginning, drummer Steven Starvaggi, who joined in December 2024, and guitarist Todd Sandberg, who completed the lineup in November.

As Amy explains: “That hasn’t always been easy, and we’ve had some lineup changes along the way – but each shift was about staying true to the original vision. I wanted heavy music that still leaves room for emotion, melody, and the impact of the vocals and lyrics. That balance is really at the core of Eden On Fire.”

And on the sound they’ve crafted over the last few years, Amy told us: “Eden On Fire sits somewhere between melodic metal and emotionally heavy symphonic music. No one’s been able to pin us into a single genre – and we see that as an asset.

“Clean vocals with a natural rasp lead the way, backed by heaviness, texture, and dynamics instead of nonstop aggression. But it’s also done with elements like piano and strings, which adds that symphonic element. We write songs that are meant to be felt as much as heard – music that lingers instead of just hitting hard and moving on. We’ve also been told we write earworms, which is exactly what we’re going for.”

Our latest taste of this is Villain, which was released on Christmas Eve. It starts with a keyboard and a light guitar lick that continue as Amy’s engaging vocals take over. The first verse ends with a brief pause that you’re expecting to explode into life, only to continue with engaging vocals supported by backing vocals. Second time around, a pause does explode into a powerful chorus that ends with heavier guitars supporting a feistier verse feeding into another big chorus. It takes a darker twist with sinister synths creeping in, before another chorus gives way to a piercing guitar solo and a final blast of the chorus.

On the track, Amy said: “The response to Villain has been incredibly validating. We’ve seen strong engagement, thoughtful reactions, and a lot of people connecting deeply with the lyrics. For anyone who hasn’t heard it yet, Villain isn’t about playing a role – it’s about owning your narrative. It’s heavy and melodic, but it’s also reflective. If you’ve ever been misunderstood, mislabeled, or forced into someone else’s story, this song will probably hit close to home.”

That follows on from the band’s debut album Unresolved, which was released in November. The album is packed with powerful metal goodness like the superb Fallen, which you can check out in the lyric video below, the lively opener Brigade, the feisty Love Bomb, the hard-hitting anthem Broken and a personal favourite in the powerful final track Wake The Monster. And, for something a little different, check out the delicious acoustic version of Parasite at the end of the album.

The Eden On Fire sound has shaped by a mix of melodic metal and strong, expressive vocalists. Bands like Within Temptation and Beyond the Black have influenced their sense of atmosphere and melody, while their love of big hooks and dramatic energy is borrowed from 80s power metal. And Amy grew up on artists like Pat Benatar and draws influence from Halestorm’s balance of power, grit and attitude.

And on what inspires them to write music, Amy explained: “Our songwriting is heavily influenced by real-life experience – personal growth, conflict, resilience, identity, and emotional survival. We write a lot about being strong and still letting vulnerability show. A lot of our music explores what happens when you stop apologizing for who you are and start standing in it, flaws, scars and all.”

Eden On Fire are set for a busy year, which begins with a local show on Valentine’s Day, before competing in their regional round of the Wacken Metal Battle USA on February 28. They’ll also be releasing a new single, Queen Bee, in the next few months, with more new music on the way.

And Amy added: “There’s a lot in motion, but we’re being intentional about it – building steadily, staying creative and focusing on longevity. Eden On Fire is a band that values connection over hype. We don’t see listeners as numbers, we see them as part of a shared experience, our Fire Family. If our music makes someone feel seen, understood, or a little less alone, then we’re doing exactly what we set out to do. And we are enjoying every minute of this journey.”
